Carlo Bimbi

Born in Volterra in 1944, he lives and works in Florence. He completed artistic studies at the Art Institute of Volterra, where the meeting with the sculptor Mino Trafeli was fundamental for his training, and later at the ISIA in Florence, where he graduated with Pierluigi Spadolini. At the same time he collaborates with the architect Renzo Falciani’s studio. At the end of the 1960s he joined the Nizzoli Associati studio in Milan, where he gained his first experiences in the field of Industrial Design (taps, motor bodies, machine tools, etc.) and worked with Alessandro Mendini and G. Mario Oliveri. In the years 1970 – 1983, when he returned to Florence he gave life to the Internotredici Associati studio with Gianni Ferrara and Nilo Gioacchini: thus he began his professional activity linked above all to the Tuscan territory and concentrated in the industrial sector of furniture and objects of use. Since 1985 he has been working independently and Carlo Bimbi Design is born. He also carried out teaching activities in Florence as a teacher at the Institute of Art, the ISIA and the Degree Course in Industrial Design. Since 2003 it has been a member of the MOMA in New York, where the Tuttuno is part of the permanent collection.
